Ron Clearfield and the Asheville String Trio

A highly visible musician in the Asheville/Western NC area, Ron Clearfield, honors graduate from the New England Conservatory of Music, is an accomplished cellist, composer and conductor.  He has been a professional cellist for well over 35 years and has been contracting and performing at weddings in the area since 1990. 

Gwen Ford with Wedding Inspirations, Maddy Weiner agent at the Grove Park Inn and Kat Williams agent for the Biltmore Estate employ Ron and his groups and on a regular basis.  He and his ensembles also provide wedding and reception music at these other fine locations:

Solo cello

An internationally recognized recording artist, Ron records for the EverSound Record Label eversound.com in Los Angeles, CA. Ron often performs as a solo cellist at weddings, parties and receptions. The rich and sonorous quality of the cello and Ron's performing has been very effective musically for budget conscious clients or for clients who are looking for a more intimate atmosphere at their event. The music he performs is drawn from all the classical standards as well as from his own beautiful compositions.

The Asheville String Trio

One of the most active groups Ron employs. It consists of present and former principals from the Asheville Symphony Orchestra and includes Ron Clearfield on cello, Inez Redman on violin and Margery Kowal on viola.

  • Inez Redman studied with the legendary violinist Mischa Mischakoff.  She was formerly with the Detroit and Chautaqua Symphonies and is presently associate concertmaster of the Asheville Symphony.
  • Margery Kowal was principal viola with the Asheville Symphony from 1978 to 2007.  She holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Maryland and a Masters of Music from Western Carolina University.
The string trio (violin, viola and cello) is a legendary sound though more cost effective than the traditional string quartet.  Another violin can always be added to create a string quartet or size-down to a duo (violin and cello.)  Solo cello, string duo, trio and quartet are all available.  The addition of a trumpet, flute, voice or harp is also an option.  The repertoire available is drawn from the classics as well as from Broadway tunes, pop and folk melodies and hymnals.  The fee for whatever size group is highly competitive and will always be world class in quality.
