Solo Cello

Ron Clearfield is an internationally renown recording artist who recently recorded on the Grammy Award nominated album Rare Bird Alert written and performed by Steve Martin and featuring guest vocalist Paul McCartney. Ron often performs as a solo cellist in concerts and for private events. The rich and sonorous sound of the cello and his world class playing has been very effective for anyone looking for a more intimate atmosphere for their function but of the highest quality. The music he offers is drawn from all the classical standards, present and past popular music as well as his own beautiful compositions. Ron’s acclaimed recordings are available on this site.

The Asheville String Trio

One of the most active groups Ron performs with is the Asheville String Trio consisting of present and former principals with the Asheville Symphony Orchestra and includes Ron Clearfield on cello, Inez Redman on violin and Margery Kowal on viola. Inez Redman studied with the legendary violinist Mischa Mischakoff. She was formerly with the Detroit and Chautaqua Symphonies and is presently associate concertmaster of the Asheville Symphony. Margery Kowal, formerly principal viola with the Asheville Symphony from 1978 to 2007, holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Maryland and a Masters of Music from Western Carolina University. The string trio (violin, viola and cello) is a legendary sound though more cost effective than the traditional string quartet. Another violin can always be added to create a string quartet or downsize to a duo (violin and cello.) Solo cello, string duo, trio and quartet are all available. The addition of a trumpet, flute, voice, harp or guitar is also an option. The repertoire available is from the classics as well as from pop, Broadway, film and hymnals.

The Asheville Cello & Piano Duo

One of Ron’s newest groups is the Asheville Cello & Piano Duo. This ensemble works very well for weddings and cocktail parties particularly if classical and pop selections are preferred for the ceremony but more of a jazz feel is desired for cocktails. The duo is made up of Ron Clearfield on cello and the well known jazz, classical pianist and composer, Richard Shulman. Richard studied classical piano with Dennis Andal and Barry Snyder as well as Jazz studies with Chuck Mangione and Marian McPartland at the Eastman School of Music and continued his classical piano training with Yvar Mikhashoff while getting his MA in music composition at State University of New York at Buffalo. Richard has performed at the Weil Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Art Park, the United Nations and numerous venues throughout North America and in Europe. He has created 26 beautiful albums on his label: RichHeartMusic.com
